Five Islands Lobster Company, Georgetown, Maine

Contrary to what the first two photos may have you believe, it was quite sunny. To sit on the dock, to feel to brisk breeze coming off the water, to feel the sun on your back and to just chill... it was spectacular.

Fog rolling in over one of the islands.

A ghost ship fades into view and then slips back into the mist.

You don't find many pigeons in Maine.

Clockwise from top: onion rings, lobster roll, (fried) clam basket.

The breading on the onion rings was thick, crunchy, and herbed. The onions did not pull out of the breading when bitten into. The clams were crispy on the outside, hot on the inside, full of clean clam flavor.

The lobster roll, prepared in classic Maine fashion. The lobster is cold and mixed with the slightest amount of mayonnaise. The roll is a top split hot dog roll, grilled with butter.

Close-up of the lobster roll. It was very fresh and sweet, what you'd expect from a place sitting on a dock.

If you ask for a "lobster roll without the roll," they'll prepare a lobster platter for a few dollars more.

Part of the open kitchen in The Front Room. Google Maps incorrectly locates its address, 73 Congress St. It is several blocks from the Eastern Promenade, not at the intersection of Congress and High Streets.

Try the two eggs with biscuits and gravy plate. Order the eggs with bacon drippings and notice how fluffy the whites are. Make sure you get a little bit of the eggs, biscuit, and gravy in each bite. I was going to take a picture of the dish, but it was all over after the first bite.

The fruit plate features Maine blueberries, not to be missed if you've never had them. In fact, next time we might skip the rest of the fruit and ask for a bowl of just the blueberries.

The bread puffed up because she forgot to score the top. I spent quite a while looking at the crust through the zoom lens, which looks a bit like the surface of the moon. Moon... cheese... bread... nevermind. The crumb has a wonderful, irregular bubble pattern, is slightly tangy, and makes for a really tasty sandwich with homemade egg salad.

My wife has been baking her own bread. That KitchenAid 600 Pro stand mixer is the best thing since... now where's that bread knife?
