Soba Koh

It's been so long since I've had soba in a restaurant that I needed to reset my taste buds. Sobakoh will be my baseline.

food
kake soba
enoki soba
I wanted to taste the handmade noodles cold, but we were soaked after being out in the rain so we went with the soba soups. The grainy texture of the noodles was evident when examining them between my chopsticks. They looked as though they might break under the weight of the broth they soaked up, but did not.

organic tofu with basil, scallions, okra
The basil was the trick here, and went very nicely with the tofu.

broiled miso marinated squid
miso marinated duck with spicy miso (miso, sansho pepper, yuzu)
The squid was perfectly cooked. Tender and lots of miso flavor without overpowering the squid itself. The duck was also enjoyable and spicy miso is always a great condiment for grilled food. It overpowered the delicate nama zake I was drinking, but that's to be expected.

service
Friendly and prompt. English is not a strong point of the waitstaff, but there were no communication problems. We went right at opening time, so the restaurant was not busy.
